Friday Inspirations

We’re a creative team at Blueforest Studios, and the key to a good creative team is synergy. We love getting together and brainstorming new ideas and talking about the latest trends in art and video production. We discovered that the isolation of 2020 was really bumming us out. So- we started a weekly zoom where we simply share something that inspired us during the week. There are no rules, no boundaries- it can be anything that we found interesting, or funny, or touching, or just made us smile. It’s become such a fun tradition that we thought- why not share it with you? We send out a bi-monthly “5 Things on a Friday” email. Subscribe to our newsletter at the end of this post if you’d like to join the email list.

See some of our “Friday 5” inspirations below:

Kurt Vonnegut “Make your soul grow.”

It’s an older article, but still a gem. Author Kurt Vonnegut at age 84 writes to a high school class and explains the value of art: “Practice any art….no matter how well or badly….to find out what’s inside you, to make your soul grow.”

New Technology Replaces the Green Screen

We’ve been following this new technology for some time, and like all video production companies, we’re sooo excited! Advances in software like Epic’s Unreal Engine combined with crazy new LED screens allow video producers to place actors in location without green screens. This Vox video breaks it down in layman’s terms (ie you don’t have to be a video geek to think it’s really, really cool). I think we’re going to have to get this setup….Christmas list??

Meet Boubou Design

Boubou is a Senegalese artist who found internet fame on Instagram. He paints with whatever material he can find. We love this quick video of Boubou painting with a young girl. It just makes you smile :)

Boubou says “art is freedom.” Check out his interview on BBC.

Uber Eats: Hamill vs Stewart

What the world needs now is a little more laughter (and a little more Star Wars? Guess that’s debatable…). Either way, Uber Eats nails it with their new humor campaign. Love this.

Beautiful News

We love the beautiful news daily website. The tagline say it all: unseen trends, uplifting stats, creative solutions. Isn’t time we all had a big dose of positivity?

The 06 Female, the Angelina Jolie of Wolves

This story is an old one, but a good one. NPR has been replaying their Snap Judgement coverage of the 06 Female. It’s the ultimate girl power in the wild tale. Give it a listen. It’s worth it. Photo credit Shumway Photography (also pretty inspirational….)

The Hidden Life of Rosa Parks

This animated short covers the hidden life of Rosa Parks, and her repeated challenge of racial violence and prejudice. It’s both an inspirational and educational story of one of America’s heroes. We also love the animation style and details.

Behind the Scenes Making of the Beauty

Ok. You can’t have a video production inspiration meeting without at least one behind the scenes. This BTS video shows how a talented team applies textures from trash to create a beautiful award-winning short about environmental conservation. It’s fascinating, lovely, and heartbreaking.

Pushing the boundaries of Zoom

We’re living the zoom life in 2020, and this creative band really knows how to push the boundaries! When your dancers can’t gather in person, they figure out virtual choreography and nail it. Check out this new video from Thao & The Get Down Stay Down.

You Can’t Stop Us by Nike

Yes-you’ve probably already seen it (58 million views on YouTube)- but we had to include it. When this ad dropped, every video producer started talking. The split screen transitions are technically brilliant, and Nike always scores on emotionally evocative campaigns. Wow, just wow.

The Vegetable Orchestra

Who says you can’t play with your food? Vienna’s Vegetable Orchestra plays an original piece from home via zoom. Wait for the red pepper….Dare you to make a copycat with your coworkers :)

Hair Love

This heartwarming Oscar-winning animated short follows a dad trying to conquer a hairstyle. But bottom line- it’s all about love. Well done. We need more love in this world.

Behind the Scenes Kubo and the Two Strings

Yes. We LOVE behind the scenes videos. This BTS video shows the fascinating work that goes into creating a stop motion film. It will add a whole new level of appreciation when you’re back in the theatre (please soon 2021!) eating that popcorn.

Kevin James “What was I going to say?”

2020 has given us a lot of bad, but it’s also given us Kevin James’s YouTube short film channel. We’ve all had that moment in a meeting where we lose a thought. This one is just for a laugh.

Hope you enjoy our Friday inspirations! Reach out if you’d like to share some inspiration.

We’d love to help you tell your brand story. Contact us to book a creative session.
